Telugu-language films to Commons[edit]

Hope you are doing fine. I have learned during your Bangalore meet-up few years ago, subsequently done a few uploads of Telugu films using Video2commons. I have subsequently tried to upload a few old (1960 or before) Telugu movies, but met with some error messages. Can you help me, how to come out of the problems. I am seriously planning to upload these Telugu-language films to Commons. Thanking you.--Rajasekhar1961 (talk) 19:15, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Rajasekhar1961: There are some bugs when uploading large files. For some obscure reasons, very large files usually failed. How big is your file? Did you try to create a WEBM format file on your PC, and to upload the result? Regards, Yann (talk) 22:17, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I have tried to upload Rojulu Marayi (1955) movie from the Youtube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2DvVdlGgI0 . But it is failed with message like this : b'Audio is asked to be kept but the file has no audio tracks.' I have downloaded the movie to my laptop in the .wbm format and then uploaded with video2commons. Please help me.--Rajasekhar1961 (talk) 18:48, 29 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I get another error: Error: An exception occurred: AttributeError: b"module 'guess_language' has no attribute 'guessLanguage'". Reported here: Commons talk:Video2commons‎. There is obviously a bug somewhere. Yann (talk) 19:20, 29 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for taking an initiative to resolve. Hope we get some solution.--Rajasekhar1961 (talk) 19:45, 29 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
What to do now. Should I stop uploading or is there any way out.--Rajasekhar1961 (talk) 18:34, 30 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You can try to download it to your PC, and upload it to Commons. It's long, but it has better chance of working. Regards, Yann (talk) 19:11, 30 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question for you[edit]

You blocked me for three days for one (1) revert. Yet other editors actually edit war and you do nothing. [1] [2]

I do not understand. Why are you against me? Krok6kola (talk) 00:43, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

These 2 will certainly be blocked for a long time soon. Yann (talk) 13:46, 19 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • One (GPinkerton) was blocked for one (1) day by A.Savin [3] for more than 20 reverts, the block was appealed and the appeal declined by Elcobbola.[4] When the block expired, the editor deleted the evidence of the block[5]. (I notice that two days later you blocked that editor for one month). The other editor, Orijentolog, an editor with whom I have had a good relationship, went to A.Savin's talk page to discuss categories and A.Savin (who cannot block me himself as an involved editor who has a history with me) said he had been monitoring me [6]. He is looked for an excuse to get another admin to block me, as he had done previously. [7] That block, based on two edits provided by A.Savin, I appealed and was unblocked per a discussion on the Admin/User problems talk page. I want you to be aware of this history. I am not a perfect editor but I take the Commons seriously and do my best. It seems Admins on the Commons tend to stand behind each other without questioning. So I cannot exist here without constant worry even though I am doing nothing wrong (except the recent minor edit war with A.Savin) over a silly category (people bathing in regular clothes) placed on a Featured Picture that the photographer had asked A.Savin to remove from his photo of a religious man. Do you have any advice for me? Best wishes, Krok6kola (talk) 23:57, 19 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It's curious to see my name proceeded by "It seems Admins on the Commons tend to stand behind each other without questioning", Krok6kola. I visited Category:Requests_for_unblock, as I regularly do, and found a request by GPinkerton, who had been blocked for edit-warring. I looked to see whether this was so. I found and summarized this. Do you believe this was "without questioning"? Do you believe GPinkerton was not edit warring? Do you believe their request acknowledged the issue and offered a credible commitment to discontinue, our requirements? Do you believe your veiled accusation of collusion/cronyism is in-line with COM:AGF? Эlcobbola talk 17:54, 30 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Elcobbola: I am wishing for some other explanation as I want to feel good about the Commons and try to right to the best of my ability. As explained above, I was referring to your review and upholding of my three-day-block by Yann for my total of two reverts of A.Savin. Yann blocked me immediately after his warning to me (although I had replied I would not do it again but was blocked anyway). A.Savin has a history of trying to get me blocked. He cannot do it himself as he has a history of harassing me.[8] so I can only speculate as to why Yann thought my behavior deserved this treatment. Shortly thereafter A.Savin blocked GPinkerton for one day for making over 20 reverts. Two days later Yann blocked GPinkerton for a month. Your review of this block was correct in my opinion. I have a very high opinion of Yann or I would not have risked posting here. Is there not a discrepancy here? I am looking for an understanding. Krok6kola (talk) 19:22, 30 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You've not answered any of my questions. Эlcobbola talk 19:27, 30 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe I do not understand your questions. I do believe GPinkerton was edit warring, I do not believe GPinkerton "offered a credible commitment to discontinue per our requirements". What you called my "veiled accusation of collusion/cronyism is in-line with COM:AGF" had nothing to do with what your refer to as this. Krok6kola (talk) 21:28, 30 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Suppression de nombreuses images[edit]

Bonjour,

--2A01:CB14:1E9:2700:6C04:C9FD:53B0:AACF 11:56, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Commons:Deletion requests/File:Screenshot of permission given by Vanillasky.png[edit]

Why did you delete this file? Do you reject my argument that it is in scope? Does this screenshot itself have copyright issues? Brianjd (talk) 13:04, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Permission should be sent via COM:VRT. Screenshots are not acceptable for permission. Regards, Yann (talk) 13:06, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The screenshot was intended as permission for File:Anupam Tripathi.png. But it is not acceptable for this purpose, because it is a screenshot. I understand that.
But the same message in the form of a COM:VRT e-mail would still be unacceptable, because it only gives permission for Wikimedia projects and not for all uses. This led me to suggest that the screenshot is useful for a different purpose, demonstrating misunderstandings of copyright and Commons licensing. So we could delete File:Anupam Tripathi.png but keep File:Screenshot of permission given by Vanillasky.png. And no one has responded to this suggestion.

Cordialement, Yann (talk) 22:21, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Impeccable, je fais passer le message. Un grand merci pour ton aide. Amicalement, Reptilien.19831209BE1 (talk) 06:34, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia in Esperanto[edit]

Dear colleague! I am an administrator of Wikipedia in Esperanto. I reviewed few your edits in it (they are file renames, I know) and I want to give to you an autoreview status. Do you agree? Gamliel Fishkin 07:13, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Gamliel Fishkin: Yes, fine. Thank you. In fact, these edits were made by a bot on my behalf because I renamed some files here on Commons. Regards, Yann (talk)

Thanks for your suggest, I did it, see now if wrong I revert it, regards!!! Ezarateesteban 19:49, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

And? Any other suggest? Ezarateesteban 17:37, 23 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, much better. Make it perfectly square. However, I don't know if that is sufficient to make it FP. Regards, Yann (talk) 19:16, 23 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Claire Monis[edit]

@David Choukroun: You didn't provide a license, and there is no evidence of a free license, or that it is in the public domain. We need the date of the first publication, possibly the author, and a proper source. Maybe it could be kept on the English Wikipedia under a fair use rationale, but you need to write it down on the file page. Thanks, Yann (talk) 08:57, 24 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Crop from a deleted file[edit]

Hi Yann. Since you've deleted File:Actor Anita Stewart on a 10-inch Ceramic Souvenir Plate. Vitagraph Studios publicity item.jpg, I'm wondering what you think about File:Actor Anita Stewart on a 10-inch Ceramic Souvenir Plate. Vitagraph Studios publicity item (cropped).png. It's a crop taken from the deleted file and there appears to be some disagreement as to whether it can be kept. (see User talk:Explicit#Question about original and cropped versions of same image and User talk:Clindberg#File:Actor Anita Stewart on a 10-inch Ceramic Souvenir Plate. Vitagraph Studios publicity item.jpg for reference. Please note the two editors I asked about this are quite experienced when it comes to image licensing matters, but they just happen to disagree about this particular file. If the file can be kept, then great; if not, then it's not something I'm going to lose any sleep over. It was just one of many files uploaded by the same person with sketchy licensing and that I thought that perhaps this one might possibly be able to be kept if cropped. -- Marchjuly (talk) 12:49, 25 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Marchjuly: Hi, yes, I saw these discussion. I think that the cropped version is fine with a PD-Art template. Regards, Yann (talk) 14:54, 25 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for taking a look at this. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:31, 25 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Message from CoolChib[edit]

Why you delete my image- CoolChib124 (talk) 17:09, 27 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@CoolChib124: Because they are copyright violations. You don't have the permission of the copyright holder to upload these files here. Please read COM:L before uploading anything else. Thanks, Yann (talk) 17:20, 27 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ad:Wikimedia Commons has a specific scope[edit]

"Your image or other content was recently deleted, or will soon be deleted, in accordance with our process and policies, because it was not, or is not, within our scope." Can you clearify which photos? "Could you please stop trolling on Commons:Administrators' noticeboard‎." Accousation of "trolling" is false accousation. I'm serious. VVerka5 (talk) 13:55, 30 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@VVerka5: This refers to your posting on COM:VP. Regards, Yann (talk) 08:47, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Should this image be deleted?[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you tagged this image (File:19821000 SCOTT HOPKINS 001 RESIZED S.jpg) because it doesn't have a valid and suitable license. It has been more than a week since the tag was added, and there is still no valid license below that image. Thanks. RyanW1995 (talk) 06:56, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@RyanW1995: ✓ Done There is always a backlog, so it can take longer to delete all files. Regards, Yann (talk) 08:47, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you ask me? Yann (talk) 17:20, 4 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I thought fixing it might be an admin thing. -- Colin (talk) 18:41, 4 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Not special is needed to fix this. Yann (talk) 18:58, 4 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
