Summary[edit]

Description
English: Photographic self portrait by John Coplans, 1994. The frieze, comprised of twelve silver gelatin panels, measures 77 x 132 inches in its entirety. The artist's nude, aging male body is given frank and dignified attention in this work. The four perspectives of the camera describe the body in different classical poses, as if in rehearsal for an ancient athletic endeavor. Editions of this monumental work are in the permanent collections of the Tate Modern; the Whitney Museum of American Art; and the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego.
